Laura's Photo-shoot 4 (01-12-09)

It finally rained when me and Laura were around!
It was 11:30 PM when we got outside and our luck was against us as it stopped raining just as i got the tripod set up. We decided to make use of this situation. There was a few puddles on the bridge and i tried to get these into the shots to show that we did try to get a rain shoot!

The images captured did look a lot like photoshoot #2. The exposure was long, like in the other photoshoot, because it was dark and the flash was too garish, and Laura and her dress looked very orange, due to the streetlights. However, we kept trying.

Walk around the bay (30-11-09)

On the same day as Laura's third photo-shoot i took a long walk around Cardiff bay: from the train station to the barrage. It was about 2pm when i set off and by the time i had reached the barrage it was nearing 4pm. I took my tripod and my macro lens...i was well prepared :)

Laura's Photo-shoot 3 (30-11-09)

Finally the sun came out in Cardiff!

Me and Laura grasped this opportunity to take more photos of her Greek style dress. The sunlight was amazing. It was about 11am when we finally got sorted, dressed and onto the bridge ready to take photos and the sun was high in the sky and it was prefect!

We tried several attempts, playing with the sunlight:
-We tried it behind Laura, so the dress was covered in shadow created by Laura.
-Shadows were created by Laura's dress which made interesting shapes on the floor of the bridge
-The sunlight directly though the material made a few good shots

Enough of me talking, here are a few of the photos (:

Me again, getting into writing these things...

A photographer i've liked for about a year now is Pat Graham. If you can look at his book 'Silent Pictures' do, i love it. I only bought it for the photographs of Isaac Brock and Modest mouse but it was so worth it. In the book, the photographs are based around live music and bands that he has toured with and he manages to capture the motion and excitement of those live gigs so well.

Borrow the book off me if you have to, its great!

Laura's Photo-shoot 2 (23-11-09)

Two photo-shoots in one day :)

This one i felt was more succesful, well in some aspects anyway. We shot this on the same bridge, some dress, same aims, same everything but instead it was night time.

We tried some shots using my SLR's flash but it was too overwhelming, and the orange glow from the streetlights proved to be a very useful tool.

Laura looks like some urban angel or something :P
The night wasn't as windy as the day time shoot, but strangely felt a bit warmer? Maybe the cup of tea helped (:

Laura's Photo-shoot 1 (23-11-09)

A first proper post!

My friend Laura made a dress out of material to support our foundation studies (based on obsession). The focus of the shoot was to capture the fabric in movement and to see how the wind would manipulate it. Using my new baby SLR we went on the bridge outside Ty Pont and took some shots (:

There are a few of my favourites.
It was a VERY windy, overcast day that, by the end of the shoot, decided to brighten up and there were even rays of sunshine! :O
